Restore Legal Services for Unaccompanied Children: Letter Campaign
The rights of children are under direct attack, and we are standing strong in their defense. On Friday, March 21st, the Acacia Center for Justice received the devastating news that the Trump administration has nearly shut down our Unaccompanied Children Program.
This means that the administration has taken a drastic step, slashing legal services for unaccompanied children and terminating funding for legal counsel for 26,000 vulnerable kids. As a result, thousands of children—some of whom are too young to read or write—will now be forced to represent themselves in court, facing an immigration judge and a trained government attorney without any legal support.
As the administration moves forward with plans to increase the deportation and detention of children, we must take a stand to protect these vulnerable kids. The Unaccompanied Children Program is crucial in ensuring that these children are not left alone, and that they receive the legal representation and support they need to stay safe in their communities and in government custody.
